Some damage isn't dirt. Bleach strips the dye out of the fibers, sunlight fades it unevenly, and pet urine can leave a mark that stays even after a full wash. Cleaning can't put color back. Color restoration can.
We've been working on rugs in Chicago since 1989, at our own facility on N Christiana Ave. We look at the dyes, the fiber and the damage first, test the color, then build it back up gradually until it blends in.

The Color Problems We See Most
Wool, silk, hand-knotted or machine-made. Holes, tears or worn fringe are a repair job, and lingering smells are handled by odor removal.
Sun fading
Sunlight fades a rug unevenly, usually the side by the window. We bring color back into the faded areas so the rug looks even again.
Pet stain discoloration
Urine can change the color of the fibers even after the smell is gone. We clean it out first, then re-dye the spot to match the pattern around it.

If a stain is still there after a proper wash, it has dyed the fibers. Color restoration can usually hide what cleaning couldn't remove.

How Color Restoration Works

Look and test
We check the dyes, the fiber and how far the damage goes, and test the color on a hidden spot first.

Clean it first
The rug gets cleaned so whatever caused the stain is gone and the new color goes onto clean fibers.

Build the color back
Dye goes on in thin layers, a little at a time, until it blends with the area around it.

Set and finish
A final cleaning helps set the restored color and brings the whole rug up together.

Bring it home
We deliver it and put it in whichever room you like.
Honest Expectations
Color work is part skill, part chemistry. Here's what it can and can't do.
It usually blends in well
On most rugs the restored area is hard to pick out. On some, you can still find it if you look closely. We'll tell you which to expect before we start.
Bleach can't always be fully reversed
A bleached spot can almost always be made far less noticeable, but complete removal isn't always possible.
